Foundation Degree Media student wins award at international film festival

Becken Bahumuka, a former Barnet College Media Foundation Degree student has been chosen to receive the award of excellence in filmmaking at the 2010 Canada International Film Festival. The film which was made last year at Barnet College entitled "Knife Crime-After Effect". The Festival will take place between 19th – 21st March, 2010 in Vancouver, Canada.
 
Gilly Kilburn, Head of School of arts at Barnet College said: “This is fantastic news, we are extremely proud of Becken. To have received such acclaim for his work is a great achievement. We wish him the best of luck in his future endeavours.”
 
A spokesperson from the Canada International Film Festival said: ‘The judges felt that film "Knife Crime-After Effect" was among the very best of the several hundreds of films submitted from over 30 countries around the world and deserving of special recognition. Only a maximum of 10 films per competition category are selected to be honoured with this prestigious award.”
 
Becken Bahumuka has been invited to accept his award in person at the Closing Night Awards Ceremony at the 2010 Canada International Film Festival. Becken is currently in his final year studying a degree in Media at Middlesex University.
